Taste Tickler in Portland

Old school, blink-and-you'll miss it, subterranean sub shop underneath Broadway in Portland. Turkey and cranberry sandwich was unexpected and wonderful. Good place to hide out for a little while.

I loooove this place! It's a fantastic spot for lunch. They have really simple terryaki dishes for a super reasonable price. If your in the loyd center area and looking for affordable lunch definitely think about stopping here!

This place is a NE Portland institution, and for a good reason. Their sandwiches are delicious, generously portioned, and best of all the family that runs it are so friendly and truly appreciate their customers. Just check out the photos on the wall outside.

The food is always so good! I love the older Elvoc and Marilyn posters that are hung up along with the cartoons. Everybody working in here are so kind. This is the best place!

The best sub shop in Portland. Been preachin about this place since I was a little kid. I even wrote an article in my HS paper about it and they hung the article up. That was like 15 years ago and it’s still proudly displayed inside the restaurant. I always order the Chicken Philly with extra meat and cheese. Please support this local family owned business!!

I love this place. Friendly people, the best subs I've had in Portland to date, and great service. Good prices too, for the quantity AND the quality. If you've read this and you hit the Subway a block or two up the street, you have missed a long standing Portland gem to buy garbage and save like, $1.

Their food is absolutely amazing! It tastes so good that you don’t want to stop eating even when your full! When I come to Portland again, this is definitely a must stop!

Best sandwich place in town and I mean that. The sandwiches here are so good my eyes roll back in ecstacy as I eat them. Staff is also exceedingly nice and welcoming. This is a perfect example of what a Portland local business is and why as a community we pride ourselves in having such local small businesses.

My favorite sandwich shop. Period. It's been around, apparently, longer than I've been alive. I love their signature sandwich to the point that I'll drive an hour to go pick one up. Bypass the chain sub shops and eat an amazing sandwich.

Don't let this "hole-in-the-wall" appearance fool you, what you find inside is some delicious food that does justice to the name. The inside seems a bit small, but the sitting area was roomy enough to enjoy a meal, none of which mattered after receiving the pleasant service, and a neatly organized plate of food. This experience was totally worth every penny spent here and then some.

Teriyaki, or subs, OR a teriyaki sub! Any option is great. Highly recommend the avocado, bacon, turkey sub, or the good ol Famous Tickler Italian sub. They pack those bad bois so full you can hardly close the bread around the MEAT. Veggies are always fresh n crispy too. There's a Subway down the street, but it's no competition in my eyes.

Some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Simple flavors, friendly staff, great little hole in the wall place. Tall people be cautious, low clearance ceiling.

Roast Beef Sandwich was tasteless. Bread was bland. 2 below average sandwiches for over $20 is why they get 3 stars.

Came during the lunch hour, minimal wait time. The person working the counter was extremely friendly. They had a ton of orders being completed by door dash, but I still received my food in a timely manner. I ordered the Famous Tickler and it was delicious. Presentation was nice and very generous serving size. Overall, great food.

Not only is the food delicious, but the owners are awesome. We go in frequently during lunch and we've never left hungry or without a smile on our faces. Today I had the hot pastrami, but the Tickler is also delicious. The spicy bulgogi is another favorite of mine. Don't forget to get a punch card and collect punches for a free sandwich!

Love this sandwich shop, great value for the price. You get a huge sandwich with fresh ingredients on super fresh bread. No idea why anyone would go to subway or jimmy johns when you can get a taste tickler.

Egg salad sandwich is totally terrific!... The people there are so nice and accommodating to everyone! they have so many different kinds of sandwiches and bento teriyaki and you name it they have it. And everything that came out of that kitchen looked awesome! The bread that the sandwiches are on is so fresh. Definitely check it out!

Super duper amazing little hole in the wall sandwich shop. Tried the bulgogi and it was the best sandwich ever. Wish I lived closer, but I'll be back!
